Ffotogallery in Cardiff approached Ministry of Mould in May 2024 for help with an ongoing mould problem.Â
As a gallery exhibiting photos and other print art the mould in the air had potential to cause damage to valuable artworks.Â
As the gallery manager, Bob, said:
"Working in an old building comes with its challenges, and as an art gallery we started to notice black mould appearing in our building. This poses a massive threat to not only the artwork that we have in the gallery, but also to our archive, our library and our staff's health too!"
After speaking with a number of different companies they found Ministry of Mould and were impressed by the positive approach to tackling the mould problem. They also told us that other companies gave them "hyper-inflated costs" which did not reflect the true amount of work.Â
"We approached Ministry of Mould to help us get rid of the problem and from the start, the team were positive and helped us understand the process and how the treatment works, as we were concerned about the various materials in the archive and how the chemicals might impact them."
The work was scheduled to take place when the gallery were between exhibitions to minimise the impact on the artworks. The fog used is a dry fog which doesn't damage fabrics, however, when it comes to rare David Bailey photo prints we thought it best to be cautious!
Â
When all the work was finished we provided Ffotogallery with a comprehensive report showing the key issues which they need to address to prevent mould returning in the future. These reports come with every job which you do - we call them the Mould Prevention Plan.Â
Finally, Bob had this to say:
A lot of other specialists that we spoke to provided hyper-inflated costs, or were hesitant to commit owing to the scale and specificity of our building and work, Ministry of Mould were solutions-oriented right from the start and have made a huge impact on our organisation, making it a much safer place to work, and a much more secure environment for artwork too. Would 100% recommend getting in touch with the team if you're experiencing similar issues. Thanks Tom!"Â
